Birthing Together by Sunderai Felich

Today I went to visit Christina for the fourth time since her birth 10 days ago. Rachael, her mother, cried "won't I be seeing you any more?" She talked about the healing that happened for her after my first pre-natal visit. I realised later that the healing for her was my total acceptance of where she was at in relation to giving birth.

Her first baby, now 18 months old was born at home with her partner Trevor as her support. Together they embraced this new experience both trusting their own knowing. Three hours later Nathan was born.

They know this second birth would be quick. When Trev phoned during the night I know to get moving., however 5 kms down the road when the fog set in I realised again they would have this baby together. I called on the queen of angels to be with them and talked to Rachael as I drove.

When I arrived Christina was in her arms. Rachael was feeling cold so I suggested a warm bath. She relaxed into the water and the placenta slipped out with ease. Trevor was beaming and baby was snuggly wrapped in his arms.

Trev talked of the birth in a way I hadn't heard before. How Rachael was biting on his fingers during a contraction, then started laughing and sucking his fingers, how erotic it was for him. He talked about the lips of her vagina quivering as they opened to birth their baby. Rachael talked about being held by Trev and how she felt totally supported by him. I felt blessed to be part of their story.

As I left Rachael said to me, "you know, there was someone else here, I felt a presence in the room just before she was born, maybe it was an angel".
