"It seems very simple. The women come and tell their stories. Sometimes they need to be led to dive deeper into these wondrous tales. Sometimes there are emotions to express and be witnessed. And they need time.
Time to just be.
And the country women are so passionate about this - the conversation spills over into the break and strong connections with strangers seem immediate".
Having retired from a 40 year teaching career in primary schools, specialising in dance, drama, music and science in schools throughout the Wimmera, Unmani was prompted to begin these women's circles after years of drinking deeply herself with a group of women in twice yearly circles and also participating in the seminal
- Women's Mysteries retreats.
The eldest of nine children and brought up on a Western district dairy farm, she has often found herself in leading and pioneering activities in this area of big skies and
bull oak tree'd paddocks.
She has conducted laughter workshops, creative dance for ages 3 to adult, led mothers and daughters dance sessions, been a doula and practising rebirther, and found herself leading wild spontaneous group singing sessions during parties and gatherings.
Neighbourhood houses and Learning Centres all over the Wimmera and Mallee have also fostered her introduction to the wonderful women's art of belly dancing. Basically self taught, she now sees pupils of pupils continuing on as teachers.
As the spirit moves during the women's the circles, she sometimes calls upon these skills.
The circles conducted on her farm at Wal Wal, usually include a group meditation, a chance to share what is happening in our lives, and some nurturing. This is not all that happens
- the moment sometimes asks for something else.
She loves reading, playing the fiddle, her house and garden, and her young grandchildren.
She enjoys brevity, laughter, books, her garden and house, playing music and spending time with her 2 grandsons. (Soon 3 grandchildren)
