Amanda Pizzey

"I believe that a deeply satisfying experience of birth and mothering is every woman's birthright and that all women have the ability to birth their babies naturally, yet for a completely smooth transition to motherhood (and fatherhood) continuity of support for mother and family is required. This can come in the form of a doula."

Amanda is a childbirth educator, doula, mother of two and a director of the ICSM.
After birthing her two boys (age 8 and 3) at home she has a passion for natural childbirth. Birthing was incredibly rewarding for her and the wonderful cocktail of hormones released before, during and after the births made for blissful and exquisitely sublime first years of mothering.

Amanda loves to provide this service to women. In the weeks prior to the birth she offers full childbirth education if so desired. This includes informing women of their choices in birth, what to be aware of if birthing in hospital and ways of achieving the birth you wish for. Active birth is taught, ways of increasing pelvis space, the role of pain in labour, the effect of drugs and other interventions on mother and baby. We create a birth plan and explain to you the ways in which your body is so perfectly designed to give birth. These are a few of the important topics discussed. Sessions are relaxed and in the comfort of your own home. Otherwise you may attend sessions along with other couples elsewhere.

When the big day arrives, Amanda will come to be by your side when you feel you need her. She will work with your birth plan and be a voice for you. She will hear your thoughts and fears and gently help you to move through them. She can provide massage and physical support as you find positions that help your baby descend.

After the birth, Amanda can provide support to ensure that breastfeeding is established well. She can assist in the care of other children. She can provide massage, clean the house, do the shopping and give suggestions on how to soothe a crying baby.
This sort of support increases the amount of time a new mother spends with her baby and decreases the chances of post-natal depression.

  • Childbirth education is available exclusively.
  • Birth attendance is available exclusively (which includes two sessions before and after birth).
  • Doula support after the birth is available exclusively as you require.
